1) What cookies and similar technologies are
Cookies are small files placed on your device (computer, phone, tablet) when you visit a website. Websites also use similar “storage and access technologies” such as pixels, tags, scripts and web storage. These tools can help a website work, remember preferences, and (depending on what is used) measure and improve performance or support advertising.
For simplicity, this policy refers to all such technologies as “cookies”.
2) Why we use cookies
We use cookies to:
run the website reliably and securely;
remember your preferences (including your cookie choices);
understand how the website is used and improve it (analytics); and/or
support advertising/marketing (if used).
We only use optional cookies (such as analytics or marketing) when the relevant legal conditions are met (see “Your choices and consent” below).
3) Cookie categories used on our website
We group technologies into these categories in our Cookie Settings:
Strictly Necessary (always on): required for core site functions and security, and to remember cookie choices.
Functional (optional): helps remember choices you make (for example, preferred settings).
Analytics / Performance (optional): helps us understand how the website is used and improve it.
Marketing (optional): supports advertising and measuring campaign performance (if used).
4) How UK cookie rules work and the DUAA (PECR) exceptions
Under UK e-privacy rules (PECR as amended), storing or accessing information on a user’s device is generally prohibited unless a legal exception applies. Consent is one such exception; other exceptions apply only in limited circumstances.
PECR recognises five exceptions to the consent requirement, where the sole purpose and all conditions of the relevant exception are met:
Communication (transmission of a communication)
Strictly necessary (essential to provide a service you request)
Statistical purposes (solely to collect statistical information about use of the service to improve it)
Appearance (solely to adapt/improve how the service appears/functions for the user’s preferences)
Emergency assistance (solely to identify device location to provide emergency help)
If we rely on an exception that does not require consent, we will still provide clear and comprehensive information and—where required by the exception—a simple and free way to object. If we cannot meet the conditions of an exception, we will not use the relevant technology unless you consent.
Important: cookies used for online advertising/marketing or cross-site tracking will require consent (we do not treat these as “strictly necessary”).
5) Your choices and consent
When you first visit, we show a cookie banner where you can:
accept all cookies,
reject non-essential cookies, or
manage preferences by category.
Non-essential cookies must not be placed before you have the opportunity to provide valid consent, and users must be able to reject non-essential cookies as easily as they can accept them.
Where we rely on consent, it must meet the UK GDPR standard (freely given, specific, informed, and unambiguous, given by a clear affirmative action). We do not treat continuing to browse the website as consent.
You can change your choices at any time using the Cookie Settings link (for example, in our website footer). Withdrawing consent will be as easy as giving it.
We may ask you to review your cookie choices periodically (for example, every 6 months) and whenever our technologies or purposes change.
Consent records: We keep a record of your cookie preferences (and when they were set) to help demonstrate compliance and to respect your choices.
6) Cookie list (what is actually set)
Our Cookie Settings/Preferences Centre provides an up-to-date list of the technologies used on this website, including:
cookie/technology name and provider,
purpose and category,
duration/expiry, and
whether it is first-party or third-party.
Some optional cookies may be set by third-party providers (for example, analytics or advertising partners, if used). Details (and where relevant, information about any international data transfers) are provided in our Cookie Settings and Privacy Policy.
7) Personal data and privacy
Where cookie-related data is personal data, UK data protection law also applies (UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018). For details on how we use personal data and your rights, see our Privacy Policy.
8) Browser controls
You can also control cookies through your browser settings. Blocking some cookies may affect how the website functions.
9) Contact
If you have questions about our use of cookies, email contact@kgwcleaners.com.
